At Winthrop Baptist Church, faith is a journey—not a checklist.
We believe in a loving God, revealed through Jesus Christ, who calls us to love God with our whole selves and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This guiding truth—drawn from Matthew 22:37–40—shapes every part of our life together.
Believer’s Baptism
We practice believer’s baptism by immersion as a personal and public expression of faith. We believe baptism is a choice made freely, as a response to God’s love and a desire to walk with Christ.
Communion
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month, remembering Christ’s sacrifice and grace. All who seek to follow Jesus are welcome at the table—no membership or perfect belief required.
Faith That Grows
We believe that faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about walking honestly with God and each other. We welcome questions, doubts, and spiritual curiosity, trusting that growth happens in community and conversation.
Mission in Action
Faith isn’t something we keep to ourselves. We commit at least 10% of our annual income to support local, regional, and global ministries. We also host regular food pantry collections and an annual backpack drive to support students in need.
A Quiet Welcome
While we don’t fly flags or publish manifestos, we strive to be a place where all people feel safe, seen, and loved. That includes our LGBTQ+ siblings, neighbors navigating loss or doubt, and anyone who’s ever been told they don’t belong in church.
Freedom of Conscience
As part of the American Baptist Churches USA, we affirm the historic Baptist principle of soul freedom—the idea that every person is free to interpret Scripture, follow their conscience, and pursue God without coercion.
Always Becoming
We’re a small church with a long story, and we believe God’s still writing it. We follow Jesus with humility, honesty, and hope—and we’d love to walk with you.
